The Unique Sights of Haines

Ok so you caught me.  The guest blogger is not keeping the blog up in a timely manner.  During our stay in Skagway, Jo and I took a side trip to Haines.  Never been there and it has some unique sites.  Like most of the area it was involved in the gold rush and road construction.  There is a deep water harbor that does not freeze, so a lot of shipping came in there, and they needed rds and railroads to get the goods out.  Also like most of the area 30 feet of snow is not uncommon.  See what it takes to get in and out of the grocery store.

One of the better know attractions in Haines is the The American Bald Eagle Foundation Natural History Museum and Live Raptor Center.  They are the only facility in Alaska to do Raptor rescue.  The live display birds are rescued birds and are well cared for.  If interested the website is http://www.baldeagles.org/ .  The do have a lot of displays using stuffed animals,  which are also very interesting.  The pix below are all live animals.

Great Horned Owl
Red Tail Hawk
No he (so I'm told) is not in time out.  This was a rescued eagle who they hope to release back to the wild, so he is isolated from human contact.  Hope it works.

The handyman's, carpenter's and Tim, The Tool Man's dream ---  THE HAMMER MUSEUM  ----  who would have thunk it.

I don't know why but Jo liked this hammer.  The other reason for being there, IT WAS WARM.
